A UK technology company, Target Technology, has sued Sony over a patent infringement on its high definition Blu-ray discs, which makes use of a metallic layer that allegedly infringes on a patent filed by Target Technology, reports Tech2.com.
The lawsuit names Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony Pictures and Sony DADC and has specifically to do with silver-based alloys used in reflective layers of the next-generation disc, according to ZDnet.com.
Apparently the materials used in this layer has certain advantages associated with gold, but at a fraction of the cost, and is less corrosive than silver. Target is seeking an injunction against Sony using their patented materials and damages
