AMD Files Antitrust Suit Against Intel

AMD has filed an antitrust complaint against Intel, alleging all sorts of unsavory practices, and judging that from the fact that it was filed in court rather than in a blog, I would guess AMD thinks it is illegal. Intel processors account for more than 80 percent of the computers running x86-based chips, according to IDC. Those chips run many families of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Solaris and Linux. Even Apple Computer has announced that it will switch exclusively to x86 processors for running Mac OS software, beginning in 2006. AMD has gone as far as to set up a web site about the complaint. Microsoft has been doing this for years and getting away with it so Intel says "Why not?". Competition is good. If not for AMD you can bet the ranch that Intel processors would be WAY more expensive than they currently are. Somehow we must arrive at a compromise that allows companies to grow successfully, but not allow them to cross the line.
