In the past few months, about 46 million Americans have seen their personal or financial data lost, exposed, or stolen. So, by golly, it is time for Congress to act! An expected bill threatens companies with jail if they don't reveal identity-theft threats and would stop companies from requiring social security numbers for goods and services. The bill will shortly be watered down almost completely in committee.
