When you click the Start button, you'll see the new two-column Start menu. This new format uses a task-oriented design to make the Start menu more efficient and user-friendly. In fact, many of the items you're used to finding on the desktop are now within easy reach on the Start menu. The leftside pane of the start menu is your application history list. This is where all of your recently used applications are listed for quicker, and easier access.
Let's say that there is a program that is located in the application history list that you don't want to be there. Removing items from the application history list is very easy.
In this example, Notepad is the program I want to remove from this list. Why do I want to remove it from the list? Because I don't use it that often. I use the other programs more than Notepad so that is the reason as to why I want to remove Notepad.
To remove a program from the application history list simply right-click on the application you want to remove from the list and select Remove from This List.

That's it!
