Pc will not boot

My Dell Dimension 2400 will not boot up, Its showing message "Primary Drive 1 not found".
All my drives and CD drives are all connected and I am sure that the hard drives are all in good condition.
Do have any suggestion?

To double-check and see if "Primary Drive 1" is in :good condition", connect it to another computer either directly to the motherboard or by using a USB-to-SATA adapter (about $12 or so). If that computer cannot access it either, more than likely it's dead.

All hard drives will fail. They're mechanical beasts with moving parts. Moving parts cause wear. And when that wear becomes great enough, the hard drive simply can no longer do what it was designed to do. IOW, it's wore out.

you can also go into the bios and see if it shows the drive. if not, then good chance the drive is dead. but you open the case, check cables, and make sure it is dust free. then try again.

Can you get into SETUP (BIOS) on a Dell usually the F2 or DEL key when it starts to boot???

Jerry56 September 17th, 2019 12:32 AM

I got it to boot and it work like normal but after leaving it in sleep mode and returned a few hours later it would not wake from sleep mode.
I pressed the power button and the pc turned on with the fan running but the monitor was not light up.
After leaving the computer over night with the power off it boot normally but after leaving it for few hours the same thing happen it will not wake so now it will only boot after leavening it for several hours with the power off. ( with the computer turn off.)
Please advise if you have any suggestion.

Get into SETUP

Go to Power Management

You should have 3 settings:

Suspend Mode
AC Power Recovery
Low Power Mode

Under Suspend Mode the default should be S3
AC Power Recovery OFF
Low Power Mode DISABLED

I think maybe under Integrated Devices you may have Wake Up LAN, if so disable it.

Jerry56 September 18th, 2019 03:45 AM

Please advise how to find the above options because under power management the options that I see are :
1) Turn off monitor
2) Turn off Hard disk
3) System Standby
4) System Hibernates

Suspect virus

I suspect that the computer may be infected because its acting strange example
1) I set it to never go on standby but after a few days it goes on standby and when on standby it will not wake.
2) When I go on the internet it will be o.k for a few moment but if I try to go to another web site it will say " Server not found" and then I can't log on to the internet.

Download and run Malwarebytes, quarantine everything it finds:

Then reboot, see if that helps

Jerry56 September 24th, 2019 05:12 PM

I ran Malwarebytes but the problems remain.

Please transfer this to Malware Removal Forum for me if its possible.

Howdy Jerry56,

Before I respond to the thread you started in the Malware Help forum, I have a few questions here.

Suggests heat as an issue. Have you pulled the cover and checked if your CPU fan and heatsink are clean?

Jerry56 September 27th, 2019 12:35 AM

I turned off the computer and clean out everything and when i turn it on it will not boot so I am now waiting and will try again in another three hours (3 hrs).
I also noticed that now when it boot it will not go on the internet.

Jerry56 September 27th, 2019 06:38 AM

After waiting it boot up

Jintan September 27th, 2019 11:24 AM

Still sounds heat related. Older XP computer, so the thermal paste may be dried up, causing the processor to shut things down til it cools. You would have to have alcohol and new thermal paste to clean it up and re-paste it afterwards. Do you feel comfortable doing this?
