Internet Problem?

When on internet when closing current web page by clicking X it closes ALL TABS,I am returned to desktop, not being able to close CURRENT TAB. Any advice welcome.Regards. o.s Windows 7. Note: To be more specific, my objective being to only close the current tab not return to desk top (Browser - Internet Explorer)

IE 8 will do that, IE9 you can close one tab at a time.

what version of ie. the best way of closing the current tab is to click on the x in the tab not the x at the top right of the browser. when you click to close the browser are you not given the choice to close current tab?

I agree with IPR512 and this is most likely a changed setting in IE.
