Bulk encryption and bulk zipping folders

Is there an application that will conveniently bulk encrypt entire folders of pix in Win7? The encryption program I have will only do one pic at a time, which is problematic because I have thousands of them.

A more elaborate program like PGP can do bulk encrypting but it is hard to use and inflicts very, very long key that can be lost, and it may be cumbersome to use if the data is in the cloud and you are working with a borrowed computer or another kind of device.

So what I'm looking for is something that is simple and will use an ordinary 8+ character password that I will easily remember and can use on any device.

Also, I found that zipping hundreds of pix in a large folder is also problematic. 7-zip wouldn't do it at all; one pic out of thousands zipped and I would have lost the rest if I didn't test it first with an entire duplicate folder. Is there something better? Thanks.

I wonder if Universal Extractor will do that. I'm on my phone right now, but can post back a link to it later.
