Question Screen freezes after a few minutes

Yes some of us are still die hard XP users

Never had this weird problem. A few minutes after booting the screen just freezes, mouse froze in it's last position. Have to reset. So I booted into safe mode and it worked fine. Ran chkdsk, ran malwarebytes--nothing showed

Any ideas what's causing this and what to do??

Hey Murf long time no see

try disabling startup items in using msconfig to see if you can locate the problem startup.

I already have everything turned off on start up except for AVG and it's never given me a problem

I took the check out of everything on startup. I went back into safe mode and ran chkdsk again and it wouldn't do it in safe mode but asked to do it on start up so when I rebooted it ran chkdsk and I guess fixed whatever it was because now it's working again. Thanks for the replys
