not QWERTY or ASDF

... A lot of the newbies to computers may remember this. But I do. The typical layout of a US/UK standard keyboard is typically called a "QWERTY" Keyboard. But I hadn’t ever used one till about 9 years ago... the first 5yrs I spent on pcs and even the typewriter I had were different they followed the Dvorak standard. I could type both very fast and very accurately on a Dvorak keyboard. It even gets its name from the Doctor that had done the study and had invented it.
Here’s some off site info:
http://www.mwbrooks.com/dvorak/

My question is what do you prefer? QWERTY or Dvorak? And what do you think is faster or more accurate?

>>> This not about what you consider "STANDARD" OR "COMMON" or even "POPULAR" <<<
(if i hear any that i may have to quote a George Carlin skit...)

People commonly have strong feelings on this subject just like the PC vs. MAC one... but please lets not let this "out of hand"

Hi i8088user, I personally prefer the 8086 (I had a working Samsung PC with an 8088 until recently), but that wasn't the requested response. I'm familiar with the Dvorak keyboard, but never used one extensively, so even though Dvorak's layout is better, I still prefer QWERTY because my fingers know where all the keys are and I'd have to go back to square one to use the Dvorak and would probably end up totally screwed up on both :D

LOL... too bad the 8086 needed the 8087... as for the layout it takes an avg person around a mont to learn... took me like a week or two to switch to qwerty

Well I can type well over 40 gwpm doing the proper form and not looking at the keys with the QWERTY, so I prefer that just because I have never tried the Dvorak layout and would go pack to hunting and pecking. I have heard the Dvorak layout is better for your fingers because it reduces hand movements.

giga-words per minute?

I use QWERTY because I've used it for 7 years now and It's hard to start anew with something like a DVORAK

"I use QWERTY because my friends all use it"

;););)

gross words a minute = a word equals five characters so with 40 gwpm that is 200 key presses a minute or 3 and 1/3 keys a second.

Ohhhh!

I thought that was a typo, thanks for enlightening (sp?) me:)
