Chromebook Mouse Issue

I have an older chromebook so it has a touchscreen but I use a wireless mouse most of the time because my fingers are sloppy on some of the smaller text sites I visit. So, currently my mouse has power and moves the cursor around the screen and highlights whatever it hovers over but will not click anything. I've changed the battery but that isn't the issue. The touchscreen works just fine but is a pain for me for a lot of what I do so I'd rather have the mouse. My question is this, is the problem with the mouse or the chromebook? Obviously one is a less expensive fix than the other.

Thank you for any thoughts and/or advice in advance!

Is the mouse wireless USB, does it use a USB dongle or connect with a wireless adapter?

Check the mouse settings in control panel. Don't know which operating system your running but open up Control Panel then click on MOUSE, check the Button settings sounds like a mouse problem to me, configuration.

If you are still having problems, try opening the mouse and blowing out any dust or lint that may be stopping the buttons working properly, you may need to repeat this till all is gone.

dwndrgn,

Do you do a lot of gaming?

I've repaired mice that had been used in gaming.
Where the person had worn out the Left Button Switch from mashing on it so much.

But you can try the things that Murf and Ned suggested first.
If you still can't get it to work, just replace the mouse.
