laptop wont stay connected to i/net

Hi,
i have a laptop which i recently bought a wireless modem card for and it detects signals within range and connects to them ok but cuts out after a few minutes. i have tried it at home and recently in an internet cafe. at home the signal is always low but in the cafe it was on full bars but still kept cutting out. when i switched off the computer and back on again it would work again but still only for a few minutes. they tried rebooting at their end too but same thing. when i go to look at the status it says firewalled. is there something i have to disable on my firewall (standard windows) for it to work continously?
cheers,
alan

Hi

Could be interference from another source.

Who is your ISP?

Cheers

hi,
i dont have a facility at home to send out a signal to my laptop it just picks up one nearby thats why the signal is weak - it says conecting to connex so that might be the isp. i'm not sure what isp they have in the internet cafe but i'll find out next time i go. cheers for the reply,
alan

it is an old laptop i bought off e-bay which originaly had windows 98 but has xp professional version 2002 service pack 2 on it now. it's an HP omnibook 900 with 5.59 gb hdd (1.92 free) intel pentium 2, 363 mhz and 160 mb ram. everything is working fine except under device manager there is a problem with a communications port (com 1) it says it's a (code 43) and i've tried following the advice in troubleshhot but it diddn't work.
cheers, alan
