one reason why it would work in safe mode and not normal mode is because you won't have a lot of programs running in safe mode that do run in normal mode.

Have you gone over all of your MSN Messenger settings to see if they are set correctly (the way that you want them)? 4.6.0082 is the latest version which you can check for when you have messenger...

are you running an up to date antivirus program? if so, and there doesn't appear to be any problems then i would think it has to do with active x. might do a little research at www.microsoft.com
