I prefer uBlock but there's nothing wrong with using Adblock. Adblock is certainly easier to use. BTW - use Adblock Plus, not Adblock.

A good distro for those new to GNU/Linux would be an Ubuntu LTS release. My current recommendation is Ubuntu MATE 16.04.2. I myself use Debian Jessie but I've been using Linux for a number of years....

Well Appzalien, I guess the proof is in the pudding. You are right in saying there are many reg cleaners that are dodgy, you found a gem of a one though in Tuneup Utilities.
