I use WD for security as well. I don't have the patience to wait it out, although I have on occasion because I haven't used the PC for a couple days. It didn't sort itself.

I never find System Restore points further back than a couple months, so I generally use the first one available.

It's working fine, now--more than anything I was just curious about what caused it.
