Spyware for Vista

I used to use adaware for XP but now have Vista and haven't been able to find a good free spyware program. Anyone know of one?

You can still use ad aware in Vista and spybot and all the other free spyware programs out there, just do a search on this site or google and youll find them

Then there must be some sort of problem with my machine because if I try to download it, it fails.

Windows Defender should be already installed in Vista
if not then just get it from Microsoft
it handles spyware

No matter what OS you are using there will always be spyware and viruses lurking about

I don't have a problem with Windows Defender but I trust adaware. Actually the big problem is installing new programs. I've had the same issue with iTunes (Yes, I know iTunes isn't completely compatable but that isn't the issue). The system will download the files without any problems but when they get to the install phase it disappears immediately and is replaced with a small gray window with only the information of 'Fatal error'. It shouldn't do this. I'm really confused because it doesn't do it with all programs, so far with just those two. I'd think that maybe something is blocking all downloads except for the fact that it isn't doing it to all of them. So I have no idea where to go from here. Any ideas?

You can use AVG Antispyware Free by installing it in the compatibility mode and making it run like it was on XP Pro. That program works for me...

ok. What you do is download AVG Antispyware Free onto your desktop. Make sure you save it there. Then, once it's downloaded, right click the icon and click properties. Check the "Run Program In Compatibility Mode" and make sure XP SP2 is selected. Then you check "Run as Administrator". Now click apply and install the program. It should work then.

Let me know if you have any problems.
