How dare you flame me in an open forum. Who do you think you are? We are all here to help each other and all you have done is to put a damper on everything.

People like you cause enough problems in life with critisism, false accusations and rudeness.

You need to get a life.

I'm not just a member here. I spend a lot of time on other forums aswell.

I will send you a pm which you are not going to like *******************

Well does that mean your pissed because you've found no proof of what you've claimed in public?

Your not handling this well. You have to stick up for what you strongly dispute. I said
no preview pane virii and you said "yes there are". You fail to defend your statement?
If you can't back up what you state with conviction then don't state with conviction.
Simple.

Flame? That's not flaming. Your post is the flame at me.

Brief shortened History:
  • TJolly - preview pane is dangerous
  • Spider - No it's not
    TJolly - Yes it is
  • Spider - I've been through this many times, provide proof of a virus that does that
  • Tjolly - <long time gone>
  • Spider - <yakkty-yak with thread originator>
  • Tjolly - Spider, Who do you think you are, your a damper, people like you are a problem
false accusations, rude, get a life...I sent you a nasty private message.

Is that an angry way of saying you were wrong in your earlier statement and have no proof
of a virus that will infect a 2004 updated Windows machine via the Outlook preview pane.

I said something nice about you to if you care to scroll down a bit. I just
stick to the facts and I keep up on what spyware(s), virii, and other
maliciousness circulates around the Web. I just don't follow TJolly around
the Web an jump on him where ever he posts. I told you before I have had
this conversation many times before, I do know what I'm talking about.

Sorry you got that ballistic feeling out of all that, perhaps the frustration from
the lack of proof played a small role in that.

I don't dislike you. Let's hug and make up.

That's interesting. I use Google, 17 years in the computer business, and the grey matter between my ears.
Some claim the latter is my weakest link

Can we just end this with a statement from you regarding the Outlook preview pane?

I was not going to say anything but there has been so much bad info here that it is getting crazy.

Can you get a virus through a preview window? Yes you can. Look up the Nimba virus.

Can you get others? Yes you can, if email is received via html, all scripts are active. You can click on the wrong link or roll over the wrong area and something bad could be activated. And who knows what will come in the future.

Can you prevent getting nasties through the preview window? Yes. Keep your window updated with the latest security definitions. Keep your antivirus updated, scan all emails.

Is the above being done? Nope, check the cyber safety forum. There are a lot of newbies who don't know the first thing about keeping their computer safe.

This is all I will say about this.

Why did you not provide a link? I asked earlier for proof not more myth spreading.

Nimba is Nimda. It doesn't say anything here about the preview pane.

That is not the preview pane. Why are you misdirecting about the preview pane?

Quote:

Why are you going down this road and not providing any links. Your just
spreading false rumors about the security Microsoft provides for their customers.

No, you'll have to defend your statements, especially in this thread that when
ballistic. Post links.

Then the myth spreaders win if that is where you end up

This is exactly why I jump on e-urban myths, to attempt to quell the spread
of the untruth. Now I feel crummy, another myth believer is born.

Just delete your emails that arrive with attachments from unknown sources.
Play by that and you'll be fine with email.

I already said earlier that I delete suspect e-mails esp with attachments - thats common sense surely? I like to be credited with a little more common sense than that. You can't have read my posts properly; I was merely asking if anyone had specific knowledge on a particular attachment that Id had, expressing curiosity as to its content and wishing there was some safe way of viewing it, which I assume professional Virus Busters do all the time' or else how would they perform diagnostics on them and produce anti-dotes? I am not so naiive as to accept non-specific answers which was why I asked the question here. Sorry cant put it any better than that; just that Im not a gung-ho amateur who clicks yes to every box that gets thrown up - I actually read and make a judgement as to what I shd do in a particular situation. maybe some people click ad lib; not me. I take time to watch read, learn and listen.

I am sorry for what has hapened to you here, and what has should'nt.

It's not your fault whatsover, you posted a question and it was answered.

Some people decide to attack when someone is trying to help.

All they have to do is to say 'no that's not right, try this' but those who behave that way make it sometimes difficult.

Remember I may have not been correct in what I have said. All I was trying to do was to help.
