Well does that mean your pissed because you've found no proof of what you've claimed in public?
Your not handling this well. You have to stick up for what you strongly dispute. I said no preview pane virii and you said "yes there are". You fail to defend your statement? If you can't back up what you state with conviction then don't state with conviction. Simple. Flame? That's not flaming. Your post is the flame at me. Brief shortened History:
Is that an angry way of saying you were wrong in your earlier statement and have no proof of a virus that will infect a 2004 updated Windows machine via the Outlook preview pane. I said something nice about you to if you care to scroll down a bit. I just stick to the facts and I keep up on what spyware(s), virii, and other maliciousness circulates around the Web. I just don't follow TJolly around the Web an jump on him where ever he posts. I told you before I have had this conversation many times before, I do know what I'm talking about. Sorry you got that ballistic feeling out of all that, perhaps the frustration from the lack of proof played a small role in that. I don't dislike you. Let's hug and make up. |

I was not going to say anything but there has been so much bad info here that it is getting crazy.
Can you get a virus through a preview window? Yes you can. Look up the Nimba virus. Can you get others? Yes you can, if email is received via html, all scripts are active. You can click on the wrong link or roll over the wrong area and something bad could be activated. And who knows what will come in the future. Can you prevent getting nasties through the preview window? Yes. Keep your window updated with the latest security definitions. Keep your antivirus updated, scan all emails. Is the above being done? Nope, check the cyber safety forum. There are a lot of newbies who don't know the first thing about keeping their computer safe. This is all I will say about this. |

Nimba is Nimda. It doesn't say anything here about the preview pane. http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html Stealing or changing passwords or password files Installing remote-connectivity host software, also known as backdoors Installing keystroke logging software Configuring of firewall rules Stealing of credit card numbers, banking information, personal data, and so on Deletion or modification of files Sending of inappropriate or even incriminating material from a customer's email account Modifying access rights on user accounts or files Deleting information from log files to hide such activities Quote:

TJ was only trying to help and Im sure Ill find he did when I find a post in here that refers to my Original question. Spider was too but a bit over zealous in manner Now I know why I asked the question.....no one knows the definitive answer(s)do they. I look forward to the next episode Thanks anyway Julie |

This is exactly why I jump on e-urban myths, to attempt to quell the spread of the untruth. Now I feel crummy, another myth believer is born. Just delete your emails that arrive with attachments from unknown sources. Play by that and you'll be fine with email. |

I am sorry for what has hapened to you here, and what has should'nt. It's not your fault whatsover, you posted a question and it was answered. Some people decide to attack when someone is trying to help. All they have to do is to say 'no that's not right, try this' but those who behave that way make it sometimes difficult. Remember I may have not been correct in what I have said. All I was trying to do was to help. |
