Found this on Microsoft's site: "The system information utility in Windows XP has a problem in that it sometimes reports the wrong amount of RAM when there are multiple modules installed.

Provided the system properties (Control Panel - System - General) reports the correct amount there is no problem and the misreporting by system information is just a cosmetic issue."

it could be that you have onboard video. If you do, some of your ram will be assign to your video and not counted or used for ram.

Try rightclick my computer, click on properties, how much ram does it say you have?

The missing 8 Mb's are allocated to another process. This process is likely the video circuits, and is controlled in a bios setting.

When I right click My Computer > Properties it says I still have 248RAM
What do I do to get in the BIOS settings or should I just leave them alone?

go into your bios and see how much is allocated to your video. If 8 megs then nothing to worry about. If more then there could be a problem.

I really could not tell you. some e machines you gotta press the del key immediately after turning the power on. It should say press some key to enter setup or bios when you first power on. Press whatever key it indicates.

Leave it the way it is.

You're not going to miss 8 Mb's, and may have video lag if you remove the ram allocation.

If you are worried about your computer being slow due to lack of ram, you should consider adding more ram. 256mb is the lowest recomended amount of ram needed to run xp.

IMO you need to get more ram at least 512. Then increase your video ram from 8 to 64. Your computer will run a whole lot smoother and a little faster. If you can afford it go to 1 gig and increase your video ram to 128
