Disk I/0 error, Replace the disk and press any key

i have a sony vaio vgn-nr38m that iv had for just over a year. a couple of months back i shut the laptop down fine and then when i came to turn it on again it doesnt boot and i get a black screen with the text "Disk I/0 error, Replace the disk and press any key" i dont have a windows vista cd. i dont know what is wrong with it please help

CPU: intel pentium dual core processor t2390, enhanced intel speedstep technology 1.86GHz

MEMORY: 2gb/go ddr2 sdram

HDD:250 gb

winows vista home premium operatin system

if u need mre info bout laptop then ask.

any help would be great! cheers
