Unhappy File Extensions

Hi, I am using Windows XP and Office 2003.
I have landed myself into unexpected diffficulty. I recieved an email from a friend with an attachment which did not have a known extension (WP). Trying to open it, the message popped up asking me to associate a programme by going to 'Folder options' in the control panel. My trial and error ended up in converting all my Word file in to Word Pad files. So,Word Pad has become default file opener. I want to change the default such that only WORD openes these files. Could you pl help Thanks

Open the Document folders and right click on one of the files you want to associate with Word.

In the menu that opens, go to Open With and in the menu that open, left click on Choose from List (or similar wording).

In the list that opens, click on Word to select it, check the box at the bottom for "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" (or similar wording), click OK.

All the files formerly associated with Wordpad will now be associated with Word.
