When i start my PC...

Hi, All,
The problem that I'm having is, when i start my pc, after all the bios loadings. i keep getting the options of 1. Install windows xp.
2. Start up with the already installed windows xp.

This happened after my friend gave me a windows Xp disc that wasn't booting on his PC, so i tested it on my pc. After i went through the loading process of installing XP i cancel it at the option screen. but now i get the options at start up.

what can i do, to take the 1st option off, for good?

Som1, Please help...

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. -or-
  1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
  3. Under System Startup, click Edit.
The boot.ini file will look something like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional (or Home depending on your version)" /fastdetect

There will be another line like the one in bold, delete it.

If your unsure post what you have and we can tell you which one to remove.

Correct remove this entry
C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup"

Then SAVE but make sure it is saved as boot.ini and not a text file.

Just hit File Save As, make sure at the bottom the file name is boot.ini and save as type is "All Files" this file is in:

C:/
