Hi Cwrapps,
Is this a laptop where you can use either a floppy drive or a CD drive? Actually, what is the make and model of the laptop as well?

Thanks,

Well, I'll answer all I understand what you said.

I have this floppy I just got, and I put this file on it, it was a .FDM.

It's not a laptop. I just put the first boot thing on Floppy and it said something about a different error.

.. I'll find the file I put on the floppy and drive to boot from...It's this...

"Boot Disk - Windows XP (Home & Pro) boot disk 200K (7-July-2002)
If you are unable to boot up your Windows XP PC (XP Home or XP Professional), it may be because the boot sector has become corrupted (yet the operating system and data may still be OK). If that is the problem, then this boot disk will enable your PC to ignore the hard disk boot sector, and instead use the boot sector on this boot floppy in order to still boot successfully into Windows XP."

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

Why don't you just go back into setup (BIOS) and make the first boot device the cd drive..

Then, reboot your system with your XP cd in and follow the prompts from there!!

As long as your XP cd is an original and not one you or someone downloaded or made for you (different setup procedure), it should self-install !!

Hi Murray, thanks for the reply!!

Well, I tried that and it still asks for a diskette in drive A!!!!

It's a burnt disk, but i've used it about 20 times (Not in this situation though)

I just need the boot file....I don't kno where to get it!!!!!
