driver booster could be the reason your usb ports do not work. you should only get drivers from the computer manufacturer because sometimes oem manufacturers will make modifications to the drivers. utilities like driver booster does not check for oem drivers

Boot to the BIOS and make sure USB support is enabled.

Probably F2 on that laptop.

Did look and USB seemed to be enabled - last bios update was 2014 and have not released anything after that

Nice thread you have going over at bleeping. They're arguing like little kids in the schoolyard.

This has to be a hardware issue. The Windows 10 upgrade would have corrected a USB software issues, so no use dealing with device manager and uninstalling.

Do you have the skills to open your laptop and replace a circuit board? You probably have two USB ports on one side, and these are usually on a circuit board connected with a cable to the motherboard.

No harm in diversifying - obviously you do as well.....

Yep - must be hardware - maybe I can obtain the usb on a connector from somewhere to fit inside to see if that works.

I'll Google your laptop tomorrow and see if I can ID the circuit board.

Sorted

I noticed that in the USB3 port, one or two metal contacts had been bent and pushed up to earth on the metal casing inside.

Used a dental pick to bend them away from the casing and VOILA

Laptop now has 2 working USBs. Looks like when this happens, it knocks out all usbs.

Simple when u know how
