lost the volume controls on the bottom of my screen ...

Hi all,

I have always been able to access the volume control on the bottom right of my screen (with a bunch of other shortcuts). I am still able to access the various programs but the volume control is suddenly gone.

I can go into control panel to access volume but I liked having the control right there. I can't find a way to place the volume control back there. I have searched the forums but have not been able to find anything.

I'm using Windows Vista. Any advice?

Thanks in advance, this site is a frustration-saver!!!

Right click on an empty space on the Taskbar, left click Properties.

Go to the Notification Area tab and in the "Always Show" list make sure the box for "Volume" is checked, click OK.

See if that fixes it.

Thanks for your response.

It won't let me click on the volume option for some reason. It's always grey rather than black.

That usually means you need to reinstall the sound card drivers.

To do that, go into Device Manager (right click Computer, left click properties, Device Manager in is left-hand pane), double click "Sound video and game controllers" to expand the list, then double click on the sound card listed there.

In the window that opens, go to the Driver tab and click on the "Update Driver" button. Step through the wizard to let it find and reinstall the drivers.

See if that fixes it.
