Vista on reboot loop

Hi All;
Next Friday I am travelling to my brothers place where I am told that his Vista 32bit (home not sure which) keeps going into spasms of constant reboot stoppable only by powering down the machine.
My first port of call will be to check the CPU heat-sink/fan for excess dust and crud, renew thermal paste etc. If the problem still exists I guess I may need to talk to our ant-virus people
However if any has other ideas on why this may be happening I would love to hear them. fyi this machine is totally stacked with online games another possible problem I would guess....

Constant reboot generally can be caused by heat, either the Processor or Video, you need to boot it and get into the BIOS Setup and see if there is a hardware menu that shows the temperatures.

Also try SAFE MODE if it stops then it could be a driver problem.

If you can get into Safe Mode then check the logs in event viewer, may give you a clue on what's going on.

Open Event Viewer by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Event Viewer.* If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation

Hi Murf,
It looks like it was a overheat problem. The heat-sink and fan had a big woolly overcoat on. Once I got the thing cleaned up and removed three none working a/v programs it appears to be fine....
