Error opening an EXCEL file.

Hello everyone,

I have a user who was in an excel (2000) program when he received an error message [ ....performed and illegal operation ]. He had to shut his machine down and reboot.

Now when he tries to open up the excel file he was working in, he gets this error message:

an error occurred initializing the VBA libraries(2)

I've looked in the "knowledgebase" on MS website but I'm not having any luck finding how to "hopefully" repair this file so it is usable again.

Does anyone know if (how) we can salvage. ?

Thanks,

Laura

How do LWerner

Give this a look over.

CAUSE: This problem occurs if an outdated version of Oleaut32.dll is installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION:If the application does not close after you receive the error message, follow these steps to resolve the problem:
Click Detect and Repair on the Help menu.
Click Start in the Detect and Repair dialog box.
The Office Setup program replaces the outdated copy of Oleaut32.dll.

If the application closes after you receive the error message, use these steps to resolve the problem:
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Double-click Office 2000.
Click Repair Office.
Click to select Reinstall Office and click Finish.

NOTE: Due to the outdated version of Oleaut32.dll, the error messages may appear during the reinstallation. Click Ignore in each error message dialog box to continue.

REFERENCESFor additional information about Office errors that can occur with an outdated version of Oleaut32.dll, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hi tweaker,

Are you saying that "All" of Office 2000 needs to be repaired?

My user can open other files just fine. Only the file he was working in at the time of the "illegal operation" message was damaged.

Or...can I choose a singe file to be repaired as opposed to re-installing Office?

Your excel file is corrupted and need to be repaired as it is inaccessible and showing error messages like"an error occurred initializing the VBA libraries(2)". To repair it use Excel File Repair software.

To repair your corrupted excel file use Kernel Recovery for Excel

This is the best excel file repair software. I have evaluated many excel file repair software, when my excel file is showing error message "This file is not in a recognizable format". I found this software almost excellent among other softwares.

Really a great piece of software.......

thanks

Thank you to Recoveryguru and Rockboy. As you might imagine, that file is long gone. But this information may be useful on another occasion. I'm impressed that people still work on issues even though they may be a "little" old.

Love you guys!
