Update Driver for Pioneer DVDRW
I have a problem detected in Device manager with my CD Rom drive. I tried to update driver and it says they cannot update because it got corrupted.
My CD drive doesn't read any disc put in there. I cleaned it out, with dust remover spray and a very soft cloth on the 'eye', still nothing. I need to update Pioneer DVDRW DVR-K16 I have searched the Internet and none are free or they want you to put your email in and fill out surveys and such. Does anyone have a link where I can get this file? Thank you |

Just looking around, found a driver/firmware through Softpedia here:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIR...-K16-142.shtml No info or cash needed, apparently. |

Thats a firmware update (the code is written to the device itself rather than installed as driver). just run the executable and follow the on-screen instructions.

Make sure the device is securely plugged in. Sounds like your system is not recognizing the device.

Um, it is my CD ROM drive......internal in my original laptop.

Typically, CD and DVD Rom drives do not need drivers, at least not ones from somewhere else. Windows uses generic drivers to operate the drives. So instead of asking Device Manager to update the driver, select uninstall the driver instead, and then reboot. Windows will then reinstall the generic drivers from its stored cache for the drive when it restarts. I've done this many times with Desktops and I haven't heard of drivers for a ROM drive (except for DOS) in a long time.

Thanks for trying to help - I appreciate it.
I did uninstall the driver and rebooted. Checked to see if the problem was still there, and it was. I then chose to "roll back to previous driver before update" -- same problem. I have a feeling I may be buying an external drive. |

It's a pretty good bet that the drive is bad.

Laptop drives can be removed and replaced. Usually its as simple as removing a few screws underneath the drive and then sliding it out. Before you go spending money on a new drive (internal or external) you might try pulling and re-seating the drive to see if the action cleans the contacts enough to make it work again. A laptop with an external rom drive takes the portability of it away.
