Mint13 & Canon

G'day Folk's.
I just installed LinuxMint 13. 64 bit.
I still have my Canon MP280.
I went into Canon and downloaded the printer and xcanner drivers.

I installed the printer drivers, and everything works fine.

I installed the scanner drivers.
Simple Scan can't find a scanner. So I installed XSane. Xsane can't find a scanner.

I went into 'search' and typed "add scanner".
It came up with :-

Install.
package 'argyll'
package 'argyll :386'
package 'bisonc++'

I installed 'argyll' and 'bisonc++'

'Simple Scan' and 'XSane' still can't find a scanner.

Does anybody know what I did wrong or what else I can do please?

I don't have any experience with this device, but this post look like it has a promising solution: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=76930

Thank's for the idea Kage.
I decided to give up on Canon and look around for something else. because of the internet stories I've read, I started looking at HP printer/scanners. The cheapest wireless one I could find was $99-99.

But then, I was walking through our local Aldi shop I saw a 'Lexmark S415'.
On the box it said Windows, AppleMac and Linux (made in China, of course). Aldi's price for the Lexmark S415 was $49-99. So I bought it.

Installing the Windows software was (by today's standards) very involved. But once installed it all worked fine. Printer, Scanner and Fax.

There was no linux software. So I just plugged it in and booted up Ubuntu-Studio 12.04.
It found both printer and scanner with no trouble at all. The printer works fine.
But although Ubuntu-Studio found the scanner. The default scanner software can't find the scanner.
I haven't tried the fax yet, I will worry about fax after I have scan sorted out.

According to this address.

http://www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb/...peration=Specs

It works fine on Ubuntu 9.04. So I supposed that 12.04 would be fine.
I have 8gb default RAM. So I am running 64 bit Ubuntu-Studio.
Could that be the problem?

Well, after fiddling around in Studio 12.04. Trying to make it recognise the Lexmark fax. Almost my entire computer froze.
The curser moved around the screen, by the laptop finger-stroker, but, nothing happened when I clicked it. The usb mouse just stopped being recognised.
The download I was doing kept going. I couldn't look at it because I couldn't change desktops.
Once the download finished. I shut-down. Left it for a few minutes and re-booted.
Everything worked fine from the laptop buttons, but, ALL the usb ports had dissapeared.
I tried re-booting. I even left it overnight. But, I couldn't get them back.
So I moved the Linux-Mint-Cinnamon download (It was Mint-Mate that kept slowing down) from the download-folder into the Win7 partition.
Rebooted into win7 and burned the disk.

I have now replaced Studio with Cinnamon (this morning) and everything is working fine (except the scanner)
It seems to be running very fast at the moment. I hope I can make the scanner work.

I tried installing XSane, but can't find a scanner.
I went onto Lexmark site and downloaded the latest printer and scanner software.
Niether Simple-Scan or XSane can find a scanner to use.

With XSane I got a message saying that my firewall needed - mdns, ipp, ipp-client and samba-client - enabled on the firewall.

I can't work out how to do it. Can you help me please?
