X server config problem
Hi All,
When my machine boots it starts at a resolution of: 640x480/60mhz mid boot it briefly goes to a 720x400/70mhz then returns to 640x480/60mhz prior to my password screen it goes very briefly to 1360x786/60mhz then dumps to 1024x786/60mhz after password is accepted I get to 1236x786/60mhz. I have tried in vain to make the setting of 1360x786/60mhz stick by using both the Nvidia settings tool and by editing the X11 file: Here is a copy of my current Xorg file. <begin file> # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 295.33 (buildd@allspice) Fri Mar 30 15:25:24 UTC 2012 # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig # nvidia-xconfig: version 295.40 (buildmeister@swio-display-x86-rhel47-06.nvidia.com) Thu Apr 5 22:40:54 PDT 2012 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "Files" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "Monitor" # HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: edid Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "SONY TV" HorizSync 30.0 - 49.0 VertRefresh 57.0 - 63.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 8800 GT" EndSection Section "Screen" # Removed Option "metamodes" "1360x768 +0+0; nvidia-auto-select +0+0" # Removed Option "metamodes" "1360x768_60 +0+0; 1360x768 +0+0; nvidia-auto-select +0+0" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "TwinView" "0" Option "TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" "CRT-1" Option "metamodes" "nvidia-auto-select +0+0; 1360x768_60 +0+0; 1360x768 +0+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection <end file> I wonder if I need to add "_60" in the last option after 1360x768.... |

Why do you have TwinView enabled if you only have one monitor?
Additionally, what distro are you using and what version of the nVidia driver did you install? |

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with the latst Nvidia driver. I am away from my machine at the moment so can't give detail.
I do not recall setting up the "twin view" option. |

I commented out the twin view options with no positive outcome.
My drivers are: Nvidia driver version 295.49 for Linux-x86_64 I cannot find any reference to this setting... 1024x786/60mhz. So I wonder what is causing it to action? Last edited by Jaytee; June 1st, 2012 at 11:14 AM. |

I just changed the driver to the "reccommended" one (295.40) but no difference I still cannot get the setting to stick......

I appear to have partly solved the problem. The machine still boots in the manner I described but the final resoltion is the one I require.
At the time I was hacking around in the xorg file an Xserver update came through so I am unsure of which was responsible for the change........... |
