I have (did have) a massive song collection, just hit 7,000 songs lastnight. I turned my computer off and today I turned it on and went to listen to music and I noticed that the files renamed themselves. Here is an example.
From: AC/DC - Bacl In Black.mp3 To: AC DC - Back In Black.mp3.exe Whatever happened to the file names isn't the only thing. The file sizes all changed to 408KB and they all changed at the same time. My music folder is on my D: drive, as everything else is on my C: drive. I am running Windows XP Professional. I believe you might need to see my hijackthis log. Check for virus/adware/spyware/malware:
post a HighJackThis log into the cyber safety forum (be patient as they are busy) I've seen viruses that mess up MPs.....that's why you need backups.....but let's see what cyber safety says first |

It's possible the files are gone, but ask the guys over at cyber safety before backing anything up right now

Yeah, there is no way I can use the audio files, the file sizes were changed on them. I have already deleted them.
