To update or not to update the BIOS, that is the question.

I've never updated my puter's BIOS before, and I really don't know how to do it, or what the risks are.... My puter's mainboard is an ECS K7S5A(v.3.1), AMD Athlon XP 2000+.
How do I proceed? And if it should fail, is it possible to recover the old BIOS?

Firstly, why do you want to update it?
If it doesn't need changing then leave it alone

Motherboard/BIOS manufacturers will have different processes.

Do not update your bios unless you absolutely positively have to. If something should happen and something is done wrong, you basically have an expensive door stop.

Cause the FSB is a bit slower than it has the potential to be, and some other minor improvements....

oops I forgot to answer the actual question, sorry.

for more info about installing bios check this out. Also be sure to read any instructions from the site that has the bios update. You can find more info by searching google using updating bios as keywords.

If it should fail, then you will have a major problem because you will not be able to recover your old bios.
