After I'm done crying, I call and harass the cable company about getting it back up.

If it's desperate, maybe a job email, then I use my old Dial-Up account.
If not I would goto a Firends or Sisters house. We also have a Cyber Café I think, so that could be an option. |

Trust me, dammit, the majority of us don't want to know, and the rest of us would surely regret asking aftewords.

I curse heavily. I phone my ISP and sit on the phone on hold for 45 mins before finally getting a hold of someone that a) doesn't know what they're talking about and b) doesn't care about their job. Following that I curse heavily.

British Columbia, Canada - Shaw Cable
I've used them for years and I have seen them down twice. Once for 5 minutes and just last week a 4 block radius (I was unfortunately in) for 3 hours...I watched two movies till it came back on. On the other hand the telephone company here (Telus) couldn't keep a server up for 7 days straight if their lives depended on it. Even at that if their Web servers are up then their email servers are dropping out. I've been on road jobs and when I get there their server is Telus and I've seen this more than twice that when I go to use the Web the active light on the DSL modem is out. On one job I had to leave and come back another day because I couldn't wait any more for the signal to come back. Right now it's $42.00 (with tax) per month for Shaw and Telus is charging $34.00. I wouldn't move to Telus if it was free. For the people familiar to constantly dropping ISPs, you know how frustrating that can be and I can blow-a-gasket really easy so I don't need the extra frustration. |

I have a cable connection and when that goes down I switch over to my t-1 connection so my uptime is darn near 100%. If both happen to be down at the same time then I go 2 blocks up the street to a local cafe that offers wi-fi and armed with my laptop I'm all good.

I curse. I panic hysterically momentarily. Then I go into a deep depression. Then I go to sleep and hope it's up when I get up. I don't bother calling them!

I will do a little straightening up when my isp is down. It the only time the green fuzzy stuff growing in the shower gets cut.
