Boot disks
Why can't I simply copy and paste the bootable files from a win98 bootable disk to a floppy and have it work?
What am I doing wrong here? I forgot why this won't work... |

Have it work where? In XP, you don't need a win98 bootdisk. In fact, since XP doesn't have DOS per se anymore, a win98 disk just isn't feasible to use.

A Win98 bootdisk contains the DOS boot files and can be used on any FAT16/FAT32 drive whatever OS is installed. It boots into the DOS program before the OS is loaded.
You cannot simply copy the files of a Win98 startup disk. It has hidden and system files on it that make it bootable. You need to copy these over aswell or create a bootdisk. try http://www.bootdisk.com to get an already compiled image that you run to create the disk. |
