Memory help..

Hello again ..

Ok i have a Dell E521 (just like in my sig) i want to upgrade the memory so i have 3gb total...But, i have some issues..

In everest it says:

Supported Memory Types DDR2-400 SDRAM, DDR2-533 SDRAM, DDR2-667 SDRAM, DDR2-800 SDRAM

But when i go to crucial and do the mem test and stuff it says - Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

Thats what confused me...

I found this ram here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098

I ve heard of G.SKill before, not sure if there one of the top best brands, but theres 600+ reviews and there all good so far.

So im wondering....

*edit* as of right now i have 2x512 PC25300 - both at Memory Speed DDR2-667 (333 MHz) (also why is it only 333mhz? shouldn't it be 667? or is that the dual channel thing?)

with RAM theres abit of BS in the naming, for example DDR2-400 can also be known as ddr2-PC2-3200, check out this scroll down to the table thing, you will see that "DDR2 PC2-4200" listed by crucial is the same as the "DDR2-533" listed by everest....so therefor your ram you are looking at should work, but we'll see what the others have to say.

G.skill is excellent RAM and they're one of the best names in the business. I won't use anything but G.skill because I like them so much. The dimms I have are running at DDR 1000 and I didn't even have to loosen the timings. Truth be told though, you really can't go wrong with any of the major manufactures of computer RAM. It's such a competitive industry today that they're all compelled to turn out good products. OCZ, Crucial, Corsair, Patriot and Kingston are great brands too. I'd be more concerned about the RAM timings than the brand if I were you.

According to a search I did on CNET, your system does indeed have DDR2 667 RAM.

Ed go to Crucial and let it scan your computer, it will tell you what you can use in that E521.

http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx?gc...futyoaodkgxfww

As to why it says 333Mhz, it's because it's double pumped. Double the 333 and they round off to one up.
