W2K does not have DOS.

You can get to the command prompt:

START | RUN

Type in command.com

Why DOS??????

You can't do that. Windows 2000 is a pure 32-bit operating system that's built upon the NT technology. There is no DOS to speak at all within 2K. There is the NTVDM, but that's a vu=irtual DOS enviorment that 2K creates within 2K. Like the command prompt or the running of 16-bit applications.

If your Windows 2000 parition is fat32 then you could use a Windows 98 boot floppy to access the drive but if it's formatted as a NTFS drive then your pretty much out of luck.

Win2K & DOS

As mentioned There is no DOS with Win2K, and you can use the "command prompt". To actually get to a DOS prompt you could use a 98 boot disk, but just a note that depending what file format your drives/partitions are formatted with will determine if you can recognize those drives/partitions. If your drives/partitions are formatted with NTFS file format then booting to "DOS" isn't going to do any good, DOS won't recognize NTFS file system.

Hi PC Junkie, welcome to CTH!!
Chances are, cyberpuck hasn't been waiting a year-and-a-half for your answer, good as it is. My guess is he's moved on. But thanks for the effort!
