acer travelmate 2200 wireless connection.

I am having difficulty connecting wireless to my router.
If i disable the configuration on the router then my laptop connect fine but when i put a network key and go to wpa/ it will not work. I have tried several things over the phone with tiscali like changing the network key and changing the channel but they say i need to contact acer as their must be a problem with my lap top.
Its very frustrating as i can connect perfect if i disable the configuration on my main pc and the laptop connect fine.
The laptop is 4 years old so maybe it doesn,t have a wpa setting or something.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Shaun

Sounds like a router problem to me since it will only except one computer at a time. I guess you have tried different ports..

Hi, Yes i have tried all different channels etc and still can't get the laptop to connect wireless unless i disable to encryption in my router. I have had another router just incase it was a problem with that but this had made no difference. Somebody told me that on my laptop i need to download service pack 2 as this will then allow it to connect via the wpa as he thought that my laptop hasn,t got wpa but i really don,t know. I thought it would be simple as it works perfect if i disable the configuration but as soon as i put it back to wpa and insert my network key it won't connect.

Thanks for your reply.
Shaun

When you set WPA on the router, then you also need to enter the WPA key on the laptop. That is what WPA is, a password. If you only have Windows XP SP1 then you will need to install Service Pack 2 to enable WPA support.
