Linux User Wannabe!! :)
Okay, so I have the Knoppix version on a CD (sent to me by Jnibori). But have never been able to get this thing up and running, to see what all the Linux fuss is about!!!
I do know this version runs off the CD, but after trying it so many times, and getting some help at my own board, I STILL haven't been able to get the darn thing to work, any help would be muchly appreciated!! Dave. |

Have you set the boot sequence to include the CDROM drive before the HD in the computer's bios setup?

That was the problem when I tried this weeks ago, I thought I had the settings right, but it never booted to the CD!
Can you explain how to do that? |

That link will get you to the pdf manual on the bios. When booting, hit the delete key when the screen tells you that you can do so to enter the setup. Chapter 8 of that PDF doc shows the details of the boot sequence edit screen. You want to set this up so that the CDROM is looked at BEFORE the HARDDRIVE. You may or may not need to do a hard-boot (shut down and then turn back on the pc) before the settings take effect. |

I see there are something like 70 pages in that pdf file!!
I know this is going off topic a little, but is there a way in Acrobat Reader, to maybe copy/paste just chapter 8? I've never tried this before, and had a look around, but couldn't see any way of doing this!! |

Not in the reader no, in the full writer package though there is. I might still have an older version of the writer software around though. If you don't see a reply post within a few hours with the reduced PDF, you can assume that I no longer have the writer software. |

Dave, the quickest way to see if your system is set to boot from the CD is to put your Windows/XP CD in and reboot the puter. Will it boot the Windows CD?
Don't you have Cable internet service? If so then go to www.linuxiso.org and download Knoppix yourself. There may be something wrong with the burn of the ISO. There are instructions there to help you on how to burn ISO's etc.... |

The CD was tested by Jnibori, before he mailed it to me. The reason for him mailing it was because I had been unable to download the Knoppix ISO file, and get it to burn onto a CD!!
Just tried putting the Windows XP CD into the CD ROM drive, it didn't boot up into that!! Here's a list of my "BIOS Features Set Up"... Quick Boot : Disabled 1st Boot Device : CD ROM 2nd Boot Device : Floppy 3rd Boot Device : IDE-1 Try Other Boot Devices : Yes Floppy Access Control : Read Write Hard Disk Access Control : Read Write Boot Up Num-Lock : On Floppy Drive Swap : Disabled Floppy Drive Access : Disabled Security Option : Set Up Boot To OS/2 > 64mb : No BIOS Write Protect : Disabled C000, 32k : Disabled C800, 16k : Disabled CC00, 16k : Disabled D000, 16k : Disabled D400, 16k : Disabled D800, 16k : Disabled DC00, 16k : Disabled |
