Contaminated Page Title?

I've noticed since installing Win 10 that the Titles of most windows are weird. It started with a line through the letters and now they appear blacked out. I'm thinking it's some setting I've buggered up?

The attached pic shows what they used to look like, they are now blacked out.

Howdy keith.evans,

Can't see the change to all black being some Windows setting. Did you uninstall Classic Explorer, reboot and check?

After a search I can't find anything named 'Classic Explorer' anywhere. Is there something else I should be looking for?

Shoot, sorry, Classic Shell. It makes changes that might show up like you have.

I really thought you'd hit the nail on the head @Jintan!! I got back to uninstall Classic Shell, which I'd installed around Win 7 time and kept right up until now, or so I'd thought. After some head scratching I remembered I uninstalled it after a couple of unsuccessful Win 10 installations.

Back in the dark

Update 15.30
I reinstalled Classic Shell and have tried changing a few settings which looked like they could be the problem but all to no avail, still blacked out.

Could be a corrupted font.

Control Panel>fonts>Font Settings>restore default

Reboot

NO

Try clearing the cache, windows will rebuild after boot;

  1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog. Type services.msc and press Enter
  2. Select the service named Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache 3.0.0.0 and click on the stop button in the toolbar. (If this service is not running, then there is no need to stop the service).
  3. Press Windows key + R. Type %WinDir%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData and press Enter.
  4. Click on the Continue button to gain permissions.
  5. Double-click on the sub-folder named Local. Inside the Local folder, you would find several files which have their names starting with ~FontCache-. Select all these files and delete them. Do not delete any folders even if they are empty.
  6. Reboot your computer. When Windows restarts, it will rebuild a new font cache. Now hopefully you should not see any misplaced or strange font’s issues.

Hi Murf.

Sadly, no joy. Performed both procedures and the result was the same both times.

Sorry I didn't get back here to report.

I eventually found the problem to be a Windows Glass program I had installed quite some time previously so all's well now.

Just a note for blankvers, I have Classic Shell installed and it doesn't corrupt anything for me. I tried uninstalling it but it didn't change anything so I reinstalled it. If it did it for you, great!
