Graphics card and onboard graphics are messing eachother up!

I have a Nvidia Geforcec 5600, and on board graphics. The graphics quality is very poor on the computer, so I am assuming that the on-board gfx has taken over. I tried disabling the onboard before, but it just caused the computer to break down. I had to re-install windows.
Please help. Thanks

Ok first make sure your onboard video is disabled in your BIOS. Also there is no way that your onboard can take over if your monitor is plugged into the geforce. But either way make sure you disable the onboard graphics in the bios.

I did remember a friend saying something about that when I first installed it a while back. Would you be able to give me detailes on how to do this.
I dont know what is happening with it. My moniter is connected to the Geforce, and the last time I disabled the on-board in windows I had to restart and the moniter went off after the computer got to the screen where you select user. I had to do another clean install of windows.
Do you think I will have to re-install the driver for the Geforce?
I went on the Add new hardware wizard and it detected it and said there was no driver installed for it.

Just a question but i dont really know what point your at but are you saying that you want the driver for the card So you can reinstall the driver?

I have the driver CD that came with it, so no. I was just wondering if when I re-installed windows did it take off the driver info or will it not have affected it?
How do I disable the on-board in the bios?

I dont know what kinda computer or BIOS you have but in any case.

You can access the BIOS from press the F keys or DEL from booting.

I cant tell exactly where it is in your BIOS but it shouldnt really be that hard to find.

Yes if you reformatted and did a clean install of XP, all original drivers are gone, although XP will have the newest Nvidia driver if you have SP2 installed.

Its working fine now. I re-installed the driver for the Geforce, then eventually found the on-board in the bios settings and disabled it.
