What do you mean by you have "a number" of network adapters? It is rare for a computer to need more than one wifi adapter.

IMO, you need to physically remover all but one, then uninstall the drivers for all of them, then do a "cold" restart. That is, power down and unplug the computer from the wall for a 15 seconds or so, then connect and boot. If a notebook, unplug and remove battery.

Since these items should be used on a flat, hard surface to allow air to circulate underneath, they should never go on your lap. So I try to always say notebook.

What is the model number of this Acer notebook?

Well, that is not helping much because the specs I found said you should have an Atheros AR5B97 wireless adapter and an Ethernet adapter built in. I suspect that adapter is made by an OEM and used by several who apply their own model number.

At any rate, it appears to be internal. That means you should not have any attached to any ports. So, if using wireless, you should not have anything plugged into this notebook expect the power/charger cable. If using Ethernet, then an Ethernet cable too.

Unplug the Ethernet cable to start. Then see if it automatically connects.

Then go through the normal steps to connect via wireless. Did you do what I suggested in #4 above?

You seem confused. Today, laptop is just another name for a notebook.
