Question Infinite loop video driver problem + windows forcing a reboot to prevent dmg to comp.

I have been getting weird windows restart the past few days, almost like when power goes out for like just under a second and the computer shuts down and restarts. On restart windows said it recovered from a major error. I ignored it at first but after it hapenning about 5 times in the past week i told a friend he suggested i do the following:
my computer > properties > advanced > startup and recovery > settings > uncheck automaticly restart.

so i did all that but it didnt stop the spontanious restarts, instead i now get a dark blue screen saying windows has to shut down to prevent damage to my computer, something with infinite loop in a driver causing the malfunction with file nv4_disp being implicated.
After i restart the computer it gives me windows had a major error etc etc.
apparently its my nvidia drivers.

I have latest drivers 6177

video card: geforce 6800 GT 256mb
mobo: asus p4p800-e deluxe
pentium 4 3.0GHz
350w power supply
edit: windows xp SP1

problem only started recently and i did not do anything special with my computer beside installing a new game "warcraft3"
had no problem with it before.
i run a virus scan almost dayly and also update virus deffinition
It seems to crash only while im playing warcraft3 but i can not swear i am not 100% sure

please what should i do?

I'll provide any additionnal info needed any help is appreciated,
barnak

Hi barnak

Try using system restore and roll back to when everything was ok.

I Never did a system restore and i dont know how to do it.
also now that you mention system restore, i remember that about 2 weeks ago my virus scan detected a virus it was unable to eliminate, after reading about how to eliminate it, i remember i had to disable system restore. Curiously the virus was never detected in other virus scans even after doing the steps mentionned in the text. I believe i put system restore back on after.

Hi barnak

If you want to know how system restore works and how to use it then please goto>Start>Help&Support. In the search pane type in 'system restore' (without the quotes). All the info. you require will be there.
