Interesting Problem with Microsoft Works
I've run into a problem while trying to send some of my family recipes to my granddauhter that I stored in my present computer Microsoft Works 9. When I try to open them I get the message that Works cannot open it. The file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters or file may be corrupt.
The receipes that I cannot open were typed into a previous computer, Windows XP in an earlier Microsoft Works file. { I'm not sure what version.} In 2010 they were transferred to this computer successfully until I tried to open them today. I recently downloaded an Microsoft update to my Works program that may the the culprit. Does anyone have any advice that I might try? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Ginmay My present computer is a HP Pavilion Model m8430f Desktop, 64 bit. Microsoft Works Word Processor, Version 9.07/-613.0. Windows Vista Home Premium |

Hi Murf,
Thanks for your response to my word processor problem. It sounds simple enough to accomplish, but I don't have "Word" on my computer. Fortunately there are only a half dozen files that can't be opened. I'm going to see if I can find a hard copy of the files in question and just re-type them in MS Works 9. Thanks again! Ginmay |

ooops. Sorry about that.
Try: Open works Word Processor. · In the file menu click open, browse to the location where the files exist, select the file then click open. · In the file type dropdown menu at the bottom of that window select “recover text from any file” option. · Select the Works document and click open. · After the file is opened save it with a different name or maybe simpler: Download and install Word Viewer it will open them up then you can save under a different file name. |

Hi Murf,
Thanks for the update solution to my problem. I knew there had to be a way to unlock those files. Just back from a trip. Will apply your suggestion as soon as I get settled in. Thanks for the tip. Ginmay |
