From .mpg to vcd to mpg again?
I've downloaded a few mpeg files, and burnned them to a VCD using Nero. Recently I lost them to a hard drive formatting issue, and I found that I still have the VCDs. Is there any way I can get the same mpegs back, getting the same file size?

As far as I know VCD's require the video files to be in mpeg format to begin with. So, all you need to do is extract the video files from the VCD using the following technique:
Download ISOBuster from here: http://www.smart-projects.net/isobusterdownload.htm Install it, and run the program. Locate your CD-ROM drive with the VCD in it. Expand the CD-ROM drive in the left panel and single-click on the folder named MPEGAV. In the main panel you'll see a lot of files, probably named something like AVSEQ01.DAT, AVSEQ02.DAT etc. Right-click on the files you want to extract (it will be difficult to tell which video is which because of their wierd names, but bare with me ) in the right-click context menu, select: Extract but FILTER only M2F2 Mpeg frames When you are prompted to name the file for saving, call it anything you like, but make sure the file extension is .mpg. Then, you can play the video and see what it is, and remane it accordingly. Hey presto, your precious mpegs are back I hope this works...lol...good luck! |
