Old Laptops

G'day every-body.

I have an old 'Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200'

It has. 6gb HD.---------64mb RAM.---------8mb Graphics Adapter.

It all works fine. Even the battery still holds its charge after 10 years.

----------------------------

Apart from 'Puppy'

Does any-one know - What distros (If any) can install onto the HD and work?

Any distro will work if you use a lightweight window manager such as Fluxbox, IceWM, OpenBox, LXDE, etc. Don't expect to run Gnome, KDE, or even XFCE very well on such a low-spec'd machine.

I didn't think of it in that way.

Once again "Beauty" Ubuntu.

I am using the old-laptop right now.

It is running fine. Not as fast as my others, but, still fine.

I am running Xubuntu LTS 10.04.

So, ______ GREAT.

No, I prefer ubuntu if it can work.
I did take that Xubuntu off though, and installed 'Xubuntu 8.04 Alternate'.
So far. It is running beautifully. It boots up and runs as fast as all the other - much newer and much more powerful - desktop and laptops running 10.04.

In know that this old laptop can't install Ubuntu 10.04 from CD. With only 92mb RAM available to use.
So I just took a punt and told the installed Ubuntu 8.04 to upgrade to 10.04 over the internet.
It took 4 hours to do it, but, it went in and rebooted without any problems.
I am using it right-now to type this message and so far, everything is going good.
