Best Ubuntu Out Of The Two?

Best Ubuntu Out Of The Two?

Xubuntu or Ubuntu, or are they equally good?

They are essentially the same systems. The difference is in the graphical interface they employ. Ubuntu uses GNOME, which is a heavier interface with more features. Xubuntu uses XFCE, which is a lighter interface. Personally, I prefer XFCE as it runs faster. I would suggest you try them both and see which one you prefer.

The first time I heard about Xubuntu was from Leo Laporte. www.labwithleo.com

I actually prefer light OS's myself. Hmm, yeah if it has more features, than I'll have to see which one to go with.

I wish Bill Gates would get on board with a lighter OS. Scrap Windows Basic and create a better Windows version thats very Light.

Leo said that Windows Vista Basic is a piece of junk, compared to Premium.

I'm a Gnome guy, sorry. Well XFCE looks like Gnome it appears, accept lighter.

Hi. If you are that keen to go back to Microsoft. Try using Google to download "TinyXP Professional v9". It is very light and very fast but for securuty I prefer Ubuntu.

TinyXP Professional is a pirated version, I'm not interested in pirated operating systems.

Lets keep things legal please.

Downloading Illegal Files Can Cause:
-Infections That Slow, Corrupt or Damage Computer
-Infections That Can Collect Personal Info About YourSelf

Please don't take the risk.

I have a totally legal version of Windows XP Pro but decided to check out TinyXP Professional just for kicks. What a mistake!!!!!!! I did the Google search, found the download web site, and clicked on it. My screen flashed a few times and then pop-ups started coming up in rapid succession. I couldn't stop them..........Damn it!!!!! I got the vundo virus from their web page. I had a copy of Malwarebytes on a CD so I ran it and found 35 infected files and registry entries. I ran the delete/clean up option and now everything appears to be ok but I'm gonna be watching the PC very closely for the next day or two.

So..... this is just a warning to all of you. Stay away from TinyXP Professional unless you can check it out on a linux PC.

By the way, I was on my Windows XP Pro machine when I did this stupid thing.

Well, things did not go well on my XP machine and Malwarebytes did not remove all of the virus/malware. It took 13 days and many hours to finally clean the machine up. After 11 days of major problems I finally used two other programs, "SuperAntiSpyware" & "Combofix.exe" to clean the PC up. Those programs are great and eliminated all traces of the virus. I finally have a clean Hijackthis log and all of the pop-ups and other stuff has gone away. The virus even disabled most of my USB ports, leaving my USB thumb drive totally useless. I had to download the new anti-virus/anti-spyware programs to another PC, burn them to CD, and run them from there.

I actually thought I was gonna have to format the drive and re-install from scratch.

If you want a light XP, buy or use a legit and legal version and learn how to make it light YourSelf.

Thats the safest way. Just beware of Microsoft's License Agreement, some mods could be illegal.
