Unhappy Laptop Lcd Problem..

I purchased a Sony Vaio last year and recently a vertical line appeared on the right side of the screen.I didnt think much of it until a white border started to fade towards the center of the Lcd randomly.I noticed that if I twist the Lcd or press on the frame the picture comes up clear. I sent the Laptop back to Sony and they told me I needed to pay $700 to repair the issue. They say its a crack in the screen but Im not sure. What can I do...Should I take it to a local repair center or is there something else to be done??I posted pictures of the before and after of adding pressure to the frame..

Geez you could almost get a new lap top for that cost. From the pictures does not appear to be a "Crack in the Screen", however, it does appear that either the "Backlight" is going bad or the "Inverter". Yes it could be a fine crack in the screen, however, you said if you squeeze the LCD frame it clears up? A crack is a crack, and squeezing the frame does not make that crack go away.

The LCD screen itself could be going bad.

Lets rule out the most obvious;

Settings
Driver

Right click anywhere on your desktop and go to Properties.

You will see several tabs: Go to the Settings/Advance. Is the DPI set to "96"?

Now click on the "Monitor" Tab what is the refresh rate set at? Try and change it if you can then hit Apply. Help any?
