hard drive replacement
hi. im finally going to be adding a new hard drive to my pc and i was wondering what is the easiest way to make the transition as seamless as possible? my goal ideally is to replace my current 20gb hard drive with a new 120 gb hard drive and have everything remain identical except for the amount of space i have.its the family computer and i wanted to keep the noticable changes minimal. if possible, i would like to keep all the current programs, directories and files in the same places that they are in now so there wont be any difficulty finding things. also, since my computer is pretty old, could i have some recommendations on hard drives that have a high probablity of working with my dated configuration. the specifications are as follows:
Pentium III processor running at 600mhz 128 mb sdram 20 gb hard drive ATI Radeon 9000 Windows 98 thanks in advance. Last edited by jundam; November 24th, 2005 at 05:31 AM. |

We need to know alot more such as OS, File system (fat32 or NTFS) etc because there are lmitations on how big a drive can be seen on older units. The move is simple using Ghost or Acronis True Image to move over whats on one drive to another ...slave the new drive and master the old, then reverse when done and remove the old...or keep it for second drive and reformat it in Windows quickly and easily.
