I'd have thought that shutting down twitter was a greater act of stifling free speech than adding a 'Check facts' tag to a tweet.

I wonder if twitter and the other social media platforms will setup head offices and servers in different countries, to bypass the new laws?

I'm pretty sure that being classified as a publisher instead of the platform status it currently enjoys won't shut down Twitter any more than it has shut down Simon & Schuster, Random House, HarperCollins or a host of other US based publishers.

.. only an idiot claims a link to "check facts" is obstructing free speech. The "speech" isn't being edited, obstructed, or stifled in any way.

Perhaps Trump needs a new amendment that protects the right to lie and post/speak untruths without contradiction.

All politics aside... the guys just a f'in moron.

I generally support Trump's policies and in the minds of some, that means I must approve of everything Trump does and says.
What I definitely don't approve of is the name calling.
The use of words like "idiot" and "moron" says a lot more about the person using them than it does about the person at which they are directed.

I agree that name calling is not a good option. However considering his words and actions past and present brings to mind words like idiotic, (and certainly id) moronic and others. Seems to me that it is not the occasional gaff that many politicians make from time to time but a continual stream of them.
The latest being when the looting begins the shooting starts. Not helpful in my view.

The sad thing about that is that you are not alone and there are many others who see his shortcomings as par for the course, they are prepared to accept them, and worse than that, see them as an acceptable way to behave. Together with that they see his lies and deceptions as being OK and even accept them as truth, and see anything to the contrary as, 'Fake News'.

The US has been diminished in the world view because they have Donald Trump as their president. A sorry state of affairs indeed.

A statesman he is not.

seen in https://www.theguardian.com/music/20...acy-and-racism

Quote:
Taylor Swift has accused Donald Trump of “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” after tweets sent by the president appeared to threaten violence against protesters in Minnesota.
The singer weighed in on Trump’s response to the volatile demonstrations in Minneapolis this week, where anger has anger erupted over the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
In a tweet sent late on Thursday night, Trump called the protesters “thugs” who are “dishonouring the memory of George Floyd”, adding, “Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts.”
In response, Swift tweeted on Friday to her 86 million followers: “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence?

However saying that is likely to make his glued on supporters even more oblivious to his shortcomings and more determined to re-elect him.

That once great nation, The United States, will sink even lower in the eyes of the world, if that should happen.

Even if not everything he states substantiates your opinion.
furthermore the "MAGA" group of right wing extremists have managed a surprising silence during this last outrage.

I know it's possible to despise Trump's abrasive, obnoxious style and still acknowledge he has implemented some policies and taken some actions that have had positive results.
I despised Obama's arrogant, disdainful personal style, too, yet supported a number of his policies.
