Great link sho-dan, never heard of an "arroyo" before. I will try and weave it into my conversation in work this afternoon.

BM - gawd bless ya Mary Poppins. Though it was "ooo arrrrr to be do" out your neck of the woods? whereas I'm more "who's coat is that jacket" and "are you reading that newspaper you are sitting on, bach?"

To all those saying "don't criticize people because of a few spelling mistakes", this isn't about spelling mistakes. It's about people deliberately typing like morons, because they're lazy, trying to save time, trying to look cool, or whatever other pathetic excuse they have. And as uripyores' link points out, any semi-intelligent person can easily tell the difference between deliberate English abuse and legitimate ESL difficulties, so foreigners don't have any excuse either.

I think the computer is at fault sometimes. Take me, please. No really, I bang away at the kbd for a paragraph or two and look up at the screen and see my computer has changed many letters I know I typed correctly. I think it's a built in little joke. Luckily I do use IESpell checker but it does not catch everything, especially grammar.
This doesn't apply to UK where another spell checker is used.
(a lot of 'ours' in UK. Honour, colour, etc. My IEspell picks them up constantly but I just overlook them as to the source.
Licence is a noun (a driving licence) (I use my license to drive)
License is a verb (a landlord is licensed to sell booze)
Practice is a noun (a lawyer's practice)
Practise is a verb (to practise the piano for an exam)

Effect is a noun (this weather has an uplifting effect on my mood)
Affect is a verb (The change of teacher has affected her progress)

</SPAN>
Here are some other common confusions:
Stationery is paper and stuff (e for envelopes)

Stationary is not moving

Complement is adding to, finishing the set (spelt like complete)

Compliment is giving praise, (paying someone a compliment, compliments slip)

I think affect and effect are bad offenders. It affects the whole effect of the sentence.

Just because people makes type-o's and have a style about their writing is NO cause to put the BAD MOUTH(call them names) on them.To each his or her own.
If I can't read it, I just leave it alone!
NO! one is perfect, I know I come close;but I am stll working on it!
