Talking 7400c HP Scanjet Error Message, "Scanner Not Found" or "Sorry Scanner Could Not be In

Hello,

Thank you for looking at my post.
I bought a new dell computer and reinstalled the Hp 7400c precision scan pro Scanning software. My old computer had XP. The new computer has XP Pro on it.

I've been to the HP site and followed all instructions to fix this issue at:

The HP instructions are for XP not XP Pro. When I get to:

Removing the key from the registry

1.
Click Start , then Run . The Run window will appear.
2.
In the Open box, type: REGEDIT .
3.
Click OK . The Registry Editor window will appear.
4.
Click the plus ( + ) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE .
5.
Click the plus ( + ) next to Software .
6.
Click the plus ( + ) next to Hewlett-Packard .

I can only get this far. NO LanScan selection? What do I DO to get this issue fixed?

7.
Click the plus ( + ) next to LanScan .
8.
Highlight Client , and press Delete on the keyboard.
9.
Click Yes to delete the key.
10.
Close the Registry Editor by clicking the X button in the upper-right corner, and restart the computer to have the changes take effect

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Nicola

Hi welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

Is this the ScanJet 7400c/7450c/7490c PrecisionScan Pro software/driver you downloaded. sj677en.exe which is 46.52MB in size?
Download that link I provided and try it again.
You don't want to be in the Windows Registry.

Thumbs up Thank you Spider for Responding- That was very nice of you.

Hi,

I'm sorry, I did not mention that I have already done that. I have both downloaded that .exe twice and I tried reinstalling from my disk 3 times. Same responses. That's why if you follow the directions beyond that are on the HP site they lead you too:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...=22275&lang=en

and that's why I was in the XP Pro Windows Registry. That's were a got stuck.
Any, ideas? thanks

Sincerely,

Nicola

Have you installed all Windows XP important updates?
Is Windows XP installed with Service Pack 3?

Cool Thanks again for your help

Hi Spider,

Yes, for everything. Everything is up to date. Somebody said that it might be a driver issue - with service pack three - since the scanner is about 8 years old. I guess I could uninstall SP3 and see what happens but that might create other security issues...maybe? thank you

Sincerely,

Nicola

No you don't want to do that just to get an 8 year old scanner to go. SP3 is secure and it provides a purpose, scanners we can get anywhere.

Also that download page offers firmware and patches and updates. Make sure you also install all of those and try.

Smile Hi Spider

HI,

I'm going to just use the Microsoft Scan Software that's on ever computer for free. The scanner works fine just not with the HP Software. I have tried ALL the HP updates many times. The 7400c software may not work with SP3. I'm just going to uninstall the HP software. Thanks again for your time.

Sincerely,

Nicola

If you got it to work then that is good enough.

It is an older model, plus your motherboard's USB may be of an older type (version 1.1 USB) and the combination of the two
may be what causes the difficulties with the Hewlett Packard software.
