windows will not load; cannot access safe mode; reload cd won't work
Friend has Gateway computer that came with a reloadable version of XP. I have experience and some certs, but this is new to me. She says it was infected by virus W32.Myzor.Ff@yf. This is obviously a hijacker and stealth as it showed on her screen and said that another user was accesses data. She powered off the unit.
Now it will not load. Starts boot sequence> goes through Windows screen and defaults into Windows option menu (F8). Try Safe mode> attempts to load and defaults back to option menu. Tried to run the reload Cd. Still nothing. Question? Can I get the downloadable floppies from MS and run Recovery Console to get the system to a workable state? |

Boot Floppies .. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994
Have you tried booting into "Last Known Good configuration?" |

Thanks
I was thinking that the floppies might work even if the cds did not. Thanks for the input. I will try floppies and get back here when I know how it works.
